Fingers to host Otesaga Senior Open

His big league career was built on helping others, preserving 341 wins for teammates.

This September, Rollie Fingers will reprise his most famous role in Cooperstown, helping a group of special students and connecting with fans at the 31st annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and Pro-Am Golf Tournament.

Fingers, a 1992 Hall of Fame inductee the 1981 American League Cy Young and Most Valuable Player award winner, has been named the celebrity host for the Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and Pro-Am Golf Tournament, which will be held Sept. 3 to 6 at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown. Fingers will participate in the Sept. 3 Pro-Am, while nearly 100 top pros from around the country are expected to compete in the Seniors Open. Fans are encouraged to attend the Seniors Open, with free admission provided for spectators. 

On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, Fingers will be featured in a special Voices of the Game event at 10 a.m. in the museum. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Tickets can be reserved by participants in the Hall of Fame’s Membership Program immediately by calling 547-0397 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Any remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday. Aug. 26.

As the Pro-Am master of ceremonies, Fingers, a seven-time All-Star who was the all-time leader in saves when he retired following the 1985 season, will be featured throughout the Tuesday, Sept. 3 Pro-Am and as the speaker at that evening’s fundraiser dinner. Proceeds from this event benefit Pathfinder Village located in nearby Edmeston, a residential community dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Annually, the Seniors Open raises more than $50,000 for scholarships for Pathfinder Village and directly helps the Village’s 90-plus residents. More than $2 million has been raised for Pathfinder Village through the years.
