---- — Evan King of Cooperstown arrived at Mission Beach Park in San Diego just after 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, dipping the wheels of his bicycle in the Pacific Ocean to mark the end of a 70-day, 4,204-mile fundraising trip from coast to coast.

One of a group of 26 cyclists participating in the Summer 2013 4k for Cancer sponsored by the Ulman Cancer Fund, King and his group left Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean on June 2 with the goal of raising funds and awareness to benefit young adults with cancer.

Bicycling through 15 states in just more than two months, King’s group traveled south and west arriving in Austin, Texas in mid July.

The group then headed northwest out of Texas, over the Rocky Mountains, past the Grand Canyon and through the desert southwest before crossing California to San Diego. Said King, in a media release: “It was 70 days of hard work and agonizing but worth-while effort. We achieved our goal and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

As a result of sponsors and donations King himself raised more than $5,000 as part of a group total of more than $124,000. King will enter his senior year at Towson University in Towson, Md. later this month.
