---- — Milford brought back the Anton Remy Tournament, but the Wildcats will have to wait at least another year for a Remy title. Those honors went to the Cherry Valley-Springfield boys and the Franklin girls on Saturday.

Tournament MVP Jordan Beers of Franklin scored 31 points to lead to Purple Devils to a 49-39 victory of Milford in the girls finals.

Addy Lawson scored 19 points to lead the Wildcats.

In the boys final, Patriots Kyle Jaquay and Isiah Montgomery were co-MVPs, scoring 40 of CV-S’ 47 points to beat Milford, 47-42.

“I think our league is going to be very competitive on our side,” Milford coach Frank Spurchise said of his team’s first of three battles with CV-S this year. “Especially, us, CV-S, Richfield and Schenevus. It is going to be a fun year from that standpoint, a fun year for the Tri-Valley.”

Milford trailed 16-4 after one quarter but evened the game just after halftime and had a lead in the fourth quarter.

Jaquay had 22 points—including making eight of 10 free throws in the final quarter — and Montgomery added 18 points for CV-S (2-0).

Peyton Griffiths scored 17 points for Milford (1-1, 1-0) a day after scoring 14 to lead the Wildcats over Franklin, 43-26, in a first-round game that also counted in the Tri-Valley standings.

“He scored the first eight points of the game,” Spurchise said. “He got us started on a good note.”
