---- — Ethan Bliss’ days as a boys basketball reserve are over.

Senior guard Bliss hit five three-point field goals en route to a varsity-best 30 points Saturday, leading defending Section Three Class C champion Cooperstown to a 62-54 Center State Conference victory over visiting Frankfort-Schuyler.

“He’s averaging 25 points a game right now,” Cooperstown coach Dave Bertram said of the 6-foot-1 Bliss, who spent the majority of last season’s run to the state final on the bench. “He’s pouring it in. He’s just a pure shooter. When he squares to the basket, it’s good.

“Last year, he didn’t have the opportunity with the other kids who were in front of him,” Bertram continued. “But he’s averaging five threes a game right now. He’s really stepped it up.”

Bliss finished with 12 field goals and went 1-for-1 from the foul line, all of which came before the fourth quarter as F-S (0-3) switched to a box-and-two defense to contain him.

“Nobody knows about him right know, but they will quickly,” Bertram said. “He’s shooting the lights out for us. He’s knocking them in and he has the green light to shoot any time he’s open.”

Sawyer Haney contributed 10 points for the Redskins (1-2, 1-1), who held a 33-24 lead at halftime.
