Segit, Lyons named CSC first team All Stars for Cooperstown
The following athletes from the 2012 Cooperstown Football team where named Center State Conference Class D East All Stars:
On offense, Kevin Segit, a senior fullback, was named to the first team. Junior halfback Lucas Lyons and junior lineman Ben Carentz were named to the second team.
On defense, Lyons made the first team as a free safety. Senior strong safety Jacob Miller and junior tackle Cullen Rathbone made the second team.
“Each of these young men did an exceptional job all season and are very deserving of this honor,” Redskin coach Mark Segina said. “They played with passion and consistently made good things happen on the football field. While I will miss Kevin and Jacob, I am looking forward to watching Lucas, Ben and Cullen play next season. I expect they will again prove themselves leaders on and off the field.”
Jordan Manikas scored 20 points and Ethan Bliss scored 19 points, but host Cooperstown lost in overtime.
Manikas made a three-point basket with less than a minute left in overtime to bring the Redskins within two points. Cooperstown had a chance to win or tie the game, but made a turnover on its final possession.
Will Thomas had a game-high 37 points for Morrisville-Eaton, and Matt Roher scored 20 points.
Cooperstown hosts Waterville for senior night on Monday.
Sauquoit Valley 37
Ethan Bliss scored 10 points, including two three-point baskets to lead host Cooperstown to a Center State Conference victory.
Park Summers scored nine points for Cooperstown, which outscored SV, 15-9, in the fourth quarter.
Mount Markham 51
Ethan Bliss and Park Summers hit three-pointers late in the fourth quarter to help visiting Cooperstown pull away for a Center State Conference victory.
Bliss finished with a game-high 17 points. Teammate Jordan Manikas contributed 13 for the Redskins, who outscored Mount Markham, 22-16, over the final eight minutes.
