---- — BASE Race is planned

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, along with Cooperstown’s Clark Sports Center, will join forces again in August for the second annual BASE Race, with a new date of Sunday, Aug. 11. The BASE Race in 2012 had more than 300 runners in the Saturday event.

The BASE Race promotes healthy lifestyle choices for individuals of all ages. It includes a family-style 5k and a competitive 10k, with both races starting and ending at Cooperstown’s Clark Sports Center. Race times are 8 a.m. for the 10k and 8:15 a.m. for the 5k.

Also new for 2013, the Hall of Fame and the Clark Sports Center will host a Saturday evening pre-race gathering for runners at the Baseball Hall of Fame, with food, entertainment and baseball telecasts.

Those who pre-register for the event will be able to pick up race materials all day on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and may join the pre-race festivities at the museum.

Raffles and other prizes will be awarded throughout the event.

Registration is $25 for adults and $50 for families until race day, when registration will be $40 for individuals and $65 for families. Registration can be done at www.baseballhall.org/BASERace and www.clarksportscenter.com.

MCS tournament and barbecue set

The Milford Booster Club and MCS softball team will hold the Milford Softball Tournament and Chicken Barbecue on Saturday.

The game schedule is: 11 a.m. Hunter-Tannersville vs. Milford; 1 p.m. Laurens vs. Roxbury; 3 p.m. consolation game; 5 p.m. championship game.

Chicken dinner sales and pick-up begins at noon. Dinners are $9 each and includes chicken half, two sides, roll, dessert and drink. A chicken half alone costs $5.

Headwaters soccer club summer camps open registration

The 2013 Headwaters Soccer Club Summer Camp registration forms are now available. This summer, the camp series will be celebrating 24 years of serving our area youth. Seven camps will be held for boys and girls ages 7 to 17, and this year there will also be team camps. The camps will be offered for $60 per week with each participant receiving a tee shirt and water bottle. The camps will run daily Monday-Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Staff will include area college and high school coaches and college players.

The camp dates are as follows: Otego, June 24-28; Worcester Central School, July 1-5; Mine Kill State Park, July 8-12; Mine Kill State Park, July 15-19; Edmeston Central School, July 22-26; Mine Kill State Park, July 29-August 2; Oneonta State, August 5-9.

Herkimer offers summer youth sports camps

Herkimer County Community College is offering five summer sports camps.

The boys baseball camp will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 24 to 27. The camp is for kids age 6 to 13 and costs $99 per camper. For more info or to register, contact Jason Rathbun at 866-0300, ext. 2228 or jason.rathbun@herkimer.edu.

The boys and girls all sports camp will be held July 15 to19. The camp is for kids age 6 to 12 and costs $80 for one person, $140 for two, $200 for three or $260 for four. For more information or to register, contact Tom Basel at 866-8725.

The speed and agility camp will be held in two sessions for kids age 7 to 17. Session I will be July 15 to 17 and Session II will be August 5 to 7. Both sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $75 per participant per session or $100 per family per session.
