America’s heroes will be honored in Cooperstown on Memorial Day Weekend with a special appearance by the 10th Mountain Division from nearby Fort Drum.
The 10th Mountain Division Band and Color Guard will take part in the pregame festivities for the Baseball Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday, May 25, in Cooperstown. The band will play in the pregame Cooperstown Game Day Parade, which will begin at noon on Main Street, and also perform several patriotic selections and the national anthem before the 2 p.m. Hall of Fame Classic at Doubleday Field.
Soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division will present the colors at Doubleday Field during the national anthem.
According to a media release, the fifth annual Hall of Fame Classic will feature several Hall of Famers and more than 20 recently retired major league players in a seven-inning legends game. Four soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division will also participate in the contest, which will be preceded at 1 p.m. by the Legends Hitting Contest at Doubleday Field.
According to the release, Classic Weekend will feature the return of several family favorites as well as new programs including a Hall of Fame golf tournament fundraiser for the museum; the Youth Skills Clinic hosted by several former major league players; an outdoor showing of the movie “The Sandlot;” a member photo opportunity with Hall of Fame members; curator-led talks on the history of Doubleday Field; a family photo opportunity at Doubleday Field; the Cooperstown Game Day Parade; Family Catch at Doubleday Field; the exclusive “Night at the Museum” fan experience with Hall of Famers and other former major leaguers; and other programs throughout the museum.
Preliminary rosters of the Hall of Fame legends and more than 20 other former major leaguers will be announced this spring. The 2013 Hall of Fame Classic will once again be staged in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
