Tennis Classic to benefit those with special needs

The Pathfinder Village Foundation is set to host the fourth Annual Chobani Tennis Classic on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the Cooperstown Country Club.

Proceeds from the event will support the Foundation’s Scholarship Endowment, which assists residents who live at the innovative planned community.

Located in Edmeston, Pathfinder Village is a nonprofit, colonial-style village that welcomes, educates and creates opportunities for individuals living with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Founded in 1980, it offers an independent lifestyle that focuses on friendships and personal fulfillment, while providing quality core healthcare, education, vocational and social programs and supports.

“Through its 30 years, Pathfinder Village has touched the lives of many families from throughout the country who were in need of assistance and wider vistas for their loved one living with Down syndrome,” said Paul Landers, Chief Executive Officer of Pathfinder Village, in a media release. “The Chobani Tennis Classic is one of our largest annual fundraising events and we’re excited to join together with our local community for a day of fun while furthering our programming.”

The event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with a courtside breakfast featuring Chobani Greek Yogurt. The event will feature 30 players in a robin-round format with two flights and playoffs at 2 p.m. Following the matches, a reception and awards banquet will be held at The Otesaga Hotel featuring National Baseball Hall of Fame Member Rollie Fingers.

Chobani, maker of America’s No. 1 selling Greek Yogurt brand and long-time friend of Pathfinder Village, is proud to announce its continued support as the title sponsor for the Pathfinder Village Foundation’s Chobani Tennis Classic.

“Chobani is strongly committed to enriching our local community, and we believe that every one of its residents deserves access to a healthy, active lifestyle,” Cassie Treen, local events manager at Chobani, said in a media release.. “We’re truly inspired by Pathfinder Village and are proud to once again further their mission by supporting this event.”
