Cooperstown girls third in Chittenango Invitational
Freshman Samantha Fanion finished third in the Girls Varsity 3 race to lead Cooperstown to fourth out of 17 teams Saturday at the Chittenango Invitational at Jamesville Beach County Park.
Fanion completed the 3.1-mile course in 20:33.1. Teammate Kristin Ratliff crossed 1.1 seconds later to place fourth out of 169 runners.
Cooperstown scored 138 points as a team. Beaver River won the team title with 55 points. Hannibal’s McKenzie Mattison won in 20:15.4.
Jacob Lansing placed 65th in 19:24.2 to lead Cooperstown’s boys, who finished last out of 16 teams with 453 points. Sauquoit Valley won the team crown with 108 points. Proctor’s Zakaria Adam topped the field of 209 boys with a 16:20.2 over the 3.1-miler.
Cooperstown hosted Clinton, Hamilton, Remsen and Sherburne-Earlville on Wednesday after deadline and will travel to Poland on Sept. 25.

Eden and Tessa Griger won two events apiece to pace host Cooperstown in a Frontier League victory.
Eden placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.33) and the 500 free (5:48.55) for Cooperstown, which received triumphs from Tessa in the 200 individual medley (2:38.77) and the 100 butterfly (1:11.60).
Catherine Borgstrom contributed a diving win with 183.25 points for Cooperstown, which also won the 200 medley relay (2:15.49) and the 200 free relay (2:04.44).
Cooperstown (3-0) is at Whitesboro today.

Tessa and Eden Griger won two events apiece to lead Cooperstown to a Frontier League victory in its home opener.
Tessa Griger placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:40.87) and the 500 free (6:31.71). Eden Griger won the 50 free (28.22) and the 100 butterfly (1:09.13).
Tessa Griger also teamed with Grace Heneghan, McKenna Hage and Elizabeth Russo for a victory in the 200 medley relay (2:17.99). Eden Griger anchored the victorious 200 free relay (2:02.43), following Russo, Catherine Borgstrom and Lindsay Harloff.
