Coop soccer seasons end on the road

Girls lose to Tully, boys to Hamilton

Cooperstown’s soccer seasons ended over the weekend with losses on the road in the Section Three Class C playoffs. 

Olivia Ganley scored two goals to lead third-seeded Tully to a 4-0 Section Three Class C-1 quarterfinal win at home over the Hawkeyes girls.

Madison Lyon opened the scoring seven minutes into play off an assist from Ganley, who made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal 2:30 before halftime.

Jenna Donald and Ganley scored second-half goals.

Tully (15-2) will played No. 2 Little Falls on Tuesday in a C-1 semifinal.

Katie Kleban had 14 saves for sixth-seeded Cooperstown, which finished its season at 8-8-1.

Tully 4, Cooperstown 0 

Benjamin Knecht had a goal and an assist to lead second-seeded Hamilton to a Section Three Class C-1 3-0 quarterfinal victory at home over the Hawkeye boys.

Knecht assisted Patrick Salmon’s goal from 6 yards with 16 minutes left in the first half to give the Emerald Knights a 1-0 lead.

Knecht scored from 25 yards after a restart, with 25 seconds remaining in the half to make it 2-0.

Andrew Holcomb shot to far post from 18 yards, with 16 seconds left in the second half to cap the scoring.

Seventh-seeded Cooperstown (9-7-1) received six saves from Kevin Frevele.

“We took the first four shots of the game,” said Cooperstown coach Frank Miosek, whose team was outshot, 12-10.

CORRECTION: Cooperstown’s first-round win over Waterville in boys soccer on Oct. 23 was by a score of 2-0. The score reported in the 10-24 edition of the Crier was wrong because of incorrect information provided by the home team.
