Patriots eliminated in semis

CV-S had several chances to tie the game again late, including two possessions where it got three straight corner kicks. Then in the closing seconds, Dan Bosma dribbled a ball upfield and made a shot that looked like it had a chance to go in, but Matt Finne was able to extend a foot to deflect it away from the goal.

Injuries hurt CV-S too. After losing Jake Spencer to a broken ankle on Oct. 19 during the Tri-Valley championship, the Patriots lost another offensive player in the first half when Kurt Pressly when down with an injury to his right knee with 4:25 left in the first half. Pressly was taken away from the field in an ambulance and appeared to have torn something in his knee.

“The injuries certainly didn’t help us,” Adams said.

CV-S got its goal with 9:23 left in the first half as Ryan Jaquay kicked a long ball from outside the penalty box. The ball bounced off the chest of Finne and into the goal.

CV-S which ended its season at 16-2, suffered both of its losses to the Wildcats. Davenport won a home game against the Patriots, 1-0, on Oct. 1.

“I can’t be upset about the way we played today,” said Adams, who will lose only four seniors this year. “I can’t be upset about our season at all. We had a great season.”

Davenport (14-3) advances to the Section Four Class D finals for the first time since losing the 2005 final to Edmeston in overtime, 3-2.

The Wildcats will play No. 1 seed Margaretville, who beat them 3-0 on Sept. 10 in Margaretville.

“It was early in the year, and I don’t think we had come together yet,” Moorby said. “(We’ll) be fired up to play them again. Of course, (they) have that huge bench and we’re running short of players. Now it looks like we might have lost another one.”
