Addy Lawson had a game-high 23 points, eight steals, six rebounds and five assists to lead visiting Milford to a 45-40 girls basketball victory over Gilbertsville-Mount Upton on Friday in the Tri-Valley League.
Lawson scored 18 points in the second half, including seven from the free throw line to secure the victory for the Wildcats (2-1, 1-0).
“She put it away at the foul line,” Gilbertsville-Mount Upton coach Jim Johnson said of Lawson, who went 7-for-11 from the free throw line, including 3-for-4 in the last minute.
Tayler Nichols and Nikki Savarese had 10 points apiece to pace the Raiders (3-2, 2-1), who lost leading scorer Mackenzie Talbot to a right-ankle injury early in the second quarter.
“We’ve had five different players score in double figures in five games so far,” Johnson said. “I’d just like to have them all go into double digits at the same time.”
While the girls were on the road, The MCS boys were home beating the Raiders.
Milford led, 32-13, at halftime and held G-MU to two points in the fourth quarter. Payton Griffiths scored 19 points in the Tri-Valley league game.
“We had nine guys score tonight,” Milford coach Frank Spurchise said. “That’s always a good thing to see.”
Milford (3-1, 2-0) plays Laurens in the first round of the Laurens Christmas Tournament on Dec. 28. The game will count in the Tri-Valley League standings.
