An Edmeston man has been arrested on felony charges for rape and the misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child, according to a media release from the New York State Police.
William J. Bateman, 46, was arrested Jan. 5 on seven counts of rape in the second degree and six counts of engaging in a criminal sexual act in the second degree, in addition to the misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child. Bateman was found to have had sexual contact with a child younger than 15 years old, according to the release.
Bateman was arraigned in the Town of Otsego Court and was released on his own recognizance. An order of protection was issued against him on behalf of the victim. He is due to appear in court again on Jan. 17.
