FLY CREEK — Judy S. Winnie, 67, of Fly Creek, passed away after a long illness, Sunday morning, June 15, 2014, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

A native of Virginia, she was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Petersburg, a daughter of the late Estel Edwin Stark and Ruth Estelle (Gee) Stark.

On Nov. 25, 1967, she married Harry Lee Winnie Jr., who she had met while he was serving in the military in Virginia. They soon moved to New York state and first resided in Toddsville, then later moved to Fly Creek and have since made their home on Feed Store Road.

After moving to the Cooperstown area, Judy was first employed for about five years at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. She was later employed at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital and retired after 23 years of service as a clerk in the ICU.

In her leisure, Judy often attended programs put on by the Fly Creek Grange and also attended the Fly Creek United Methodist Church. An avid reader, she enjoyed working at her computer as well as craft work involving baskets.

Judy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Harry, of Fly Creek; their son, Kevin Michael Winnie, who is currently serving in the United States Army and stationed in Germany with his wife, Donna, and her children; three sisters, Joyce Wilkerson and Sissie Cummins, both of Colonial Height, Va., and Karolen R. Flowers of Frankston, Texas; one brother, Dale Stark and his wife, Gloria, of Macon, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Audrey Lee Winnie of Fly Creek; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation and service will be announced and held in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Friends of Bassett for the benefit of the ICU, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326, or the Fly Creek Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 218, Fly Creek, NY 13337.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
