Harrison Clinton hit four-three pointers en route to a varsity-high 16 points to lead top-seeded Cooperstown to a Section Three Class C quarterfinal victory at home on Friday.

Clinton scored 11 points in the second quarter, when the Redskins outscored ninth-seeded Sauquoit Valley, 34-19, to take a 47-34 lead into halftime.

“He’s playing very well,” Cooperstown coach Dave Bertram said. “He’s very confident looking for his shot. When you’re making them like  that, it’s hard not to shoot them. Heplayed well all-around. He played excellent defense pressuring their guards and stealing the ball.”

Clinton sank three threes in the second quarter, which featured all eight of Jeff Flynn’s points off the bench.

“They were pushing the ball as well, they wanted to push the tempo and we both went at it,” Bertram said. “We were able to cause a lot of turnovers, and the crowd really got us going. The place was packed and the energy in the building was electric. It was really a nice feeling.”

Michael Moakler contributed 15 points and Jay Davine had nine for Cooperstown (18-1), which held every SV scorer to single digits.

The Redskins will play fifth-seeded Syracuse Academy of Science (16-4) in a sectional semifinal Feb. 24 at a time and site to be determined.

SAS beat No. 4 Syracuse Institute of Technology, 76-64, on Friday to advance. The other semifinal pits No. 3 Beaver River (18-2) against No. 7 Little Falls (15-4) or No. 2 Mohawk (18-1), who play a quarterfinal Saturday.

Semifinal winners will play for the Section Three Class C title at 4:30 p.m. March 4 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
