Weather Watch

By MARK HANOK

After the intense heat wave, followed by cooler air but continued above normal temperatures, we got a refreshing change to a much cooler weather pattern.

During the upcoming week, the large upper-level trough will push eastward, allowing for high pressure to build in from the west, and settle over the Ohio Valley. With a west to southwest flow around the high, temperatures will get back to normal as the summer season begins this weekend.

On Friday, the upper-level low will still be in place over eastern Canada, but a westerly flow will bring milder air, along with the chance of a shower, as cold, unstable air continues aloft. With intervals of clouds and sunshine, highs will be in the lower 70’s.

Skies will be partly to mostly sunny on Saturday, with highs from 75 to 80 degrees. A warm front will approach from the south and west on Sunday, bringing the chance of showers in the afternoon, but most of the time skies will be partly sunny, and highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Early next week, the front will become stationary not far to the south, bringing variable cloudiness on Monday, with a few showers and the chance of a thunderstorm. Highs will be in the mid-70s.

On Tuesday, skies will be partly sunny with the chance of a shower and highs around 80 degrees.
