---- — The Cooperstown Central School Quiz team is still in contention on WCNY’s academic quiz show “Double Down.”

The team has participated in two matches this season, winning both. Cooperstown defeated G-MU 321-320 and Solvay 318 -1.

Quiz team advisor Tim Iversen said in an email that all players contributed greatly to the wins and that they were strong team efforts.

“Double Down” consists of 32 teams from high schools across central New York, who play against each other in single elimination matches. The matches are three on three, and participants are asked questions on a wide range of subjects, including art, literature, science, history, geography and current events.

The winning team receives the BlueRock Energy Scholastic Award trophy, and the first and second place teams receive monetary awards. WCNY host Bill Baker moderates the matches. “Double Down” is in its ninth season.

Cooperstown now moves on to the quarterfinals, which they will play on Monday, Oct. 28. This match will be broadcast Sunday at 6 p.m. and rebroadcast Monday at 8:30 p.m.
