Criminal charges were filed Tuesday morning against a man accused of beheading one woman and attacking another at an food processing plant in Moore, Okla.

Alton Nolen, 30, was charged with one count of first-degree murder with malice aforethought and two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon in Cleveland County District Court.

Nolen has been accused of beheading a woman Thursday during his attack at Vaughan Foods and attacking a second woman with a knife he brought to the facility from home.

According to an affidavit filed with the charges, Nolen, an employee at Vaughan, had just been suspended due to a complaint at the business.

"He had been in an altercation at work earlier that day," said District Attorney Greg Mashburn.

Nolen left the human resources office, drove to his residence “for the sole reason to retrieve a large bladed knife,” then returned to the business with the knife in his shoe with the intention of assaulting an employee, the affidavit said.

Collen Hufford, 54, was killed and Traci Johnson, 43, sustained several stab wounds before Nolen was shot by Mark Vaughan, chief operating officer of Vaughan Foods, who is also an Oklahoma County Reserve officer.

Vaughan shot Nolen with a rifle. Nolen remains hospitalized under police guard and is expected to be arrested and jailed later this week. Johnson was released from the hospital over the weekend.

Nolen openly admitted to beheading the first victim and attempting to behead the second victim with the knife he retrieved from his apartment, the affidavit said.

"We will fully prosecute each crime and make sure he gets held accountable," Mashburn said.

Because Nolen had recently been trying to convert his co-workers at Vaughan to Islam, the FBI was brought into the investigation. Mashburn said Tuesday the FBI is looking into Nolen's history and the relationship he would have to any groups., but the DA didn't specify.
