CHERRY VALLEY-SPRINGFIELD CENTRAL SCHOOL FALL CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES
CHERRY VALLEY — The Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School on County Route 54 in Cherry Valley has announced its Fall Continuing Education course schedule.
Clay and Pottery Painting will include three classes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7, 21 and 28. Objects will include a pumpkin plate, dot mandala plate and/or clay leaf bowl.
In the second series called Fused Glass on Nov. 4, 8, and 25, students will make a sunflower suncatcher, turkey dish, or 3D tree. Special pricing is available if students take more than one class in a series.
The classes have been made possible by the Studio for Art & Craft.
Creative Cardmaking Basics 1 and 2 will include all materials needed to make two or three cards for $20. The class will meet from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m.
In the Basics 1 class on Oct. 9, students will learn how to use die cuts and techniques for greeting card construction.
Ink stamping techniques will enhance the greeting cards in the Basics 2 class on Oct. 17. Sandra Barry will instruct the classes.
Karate classes began in September and will continue in six-week blocks until June. Six levels of karate from beginner to adult are offered with instructor Brian Cox.
Jordan Rhodes will teach a five-hour pre-licensing class from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Students must bring their learner’s permit and preregister. The fee is $30. The AARP Smart Driver Course will be taught by Kathleen Schofield from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct 26, for $20 for AARP members or $25. Preregistration is required.
Pound will feature a 45 minute workout with instructor Michelle Schmitt from 6 to 6:45 p.m. starting Monday, Oct. 7. The fee for five sessions is $35 or $8 per session for walk-ins.
Basket Weaving workshop options with Susan Hardy will be from 3:30 to 6:30 or 5:45 to 8:45 p.m., Thursday, Oct 17. Basket choices will include a tissue box for $30; multipurpose for $30; small heart-shaped for $25; round twill-patterned or large carry-all, $65.
Certified soapmaker Maria Gelnett will teach a beginner and advanced natural soapmaking class from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Students will create their own old-fashioned, cold processed healing bar soap. A total of 30 bars of colored, herbed and scented soap will be made. Students will need to provide some materials.
An American Heart Association CPR/AED Course will be offered at the school by Aaron VanBuren at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9. The cost is $20. Preregistration is required.
Coaches in need of the required NYS SED First Aid for New Coaches Course may join Les Bush from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. Attendance on both Saturdays will be required for the full course or one Saturday is sufficient for re-certification for three years.
Jordan Jaquay will begin Theories & Techniques of Coaching at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 16. The course includes information on the objectives, rules, regulations and policies as well as performance skills, technical information and organization and management practices. Training and conditioning for specific sports, fitting of equipment, specific safety precautions and officiating methods will also be included. The cost for the 10-week course is $130.
The school has partnered with the Office of the Aging and Coutlee Law to offer Understanding Estate & Elder Law Planning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct 5; Medicare 101 at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8; and Senior Scams at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. The classes are free. Preregistration is required.
Dance and acrobatics with Erin Wilday, pickleball with Sandi Preston, yoga with Bonnie Fayssoux; create with Cricut expression/ explore with PJ Johnson and Aikido with Linda and Brian Cox will also be offered.
