COLBY-SAWYER COLLEGE

Emily Vrooman of Fly Creek is completing an internship requirement this summer with Cape Cod Rehabilitation in Mashpee, Massachusetts. Vrooman, a member of the class of 2021 at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, is majoring in exercise science.

ELMIRA COLLEGE

The Elmira College Class of 2019 included more than 115 graduates receiving summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude honors at the college’s 161st Commencement on Sunday, June 2. The exercises included 204 undergraduate and 22 graduate students.

Local students receiving honors included Jack Donnelly of Cooperstown, magna cum laude; and Maya Wasson of Fly Creek, summa cum laude.

CASTLETON UNIVERSITY

Daniel Bosma and Mallory Timpano,both of Cherry Valley, graduated from Castleton University in Castleton, Vermont, on May 18, at its 232nd commencement.

CAZENOVIA COLLEGE

Cazenovia College held its 194th commencement ceremony on May 18. Three students, all from Richfield Springs, received degrees. Mykahla Collinsgraduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and psychology; Kathleen Cotton graduated with a bachelor of Fine Arts in visual communications; and Rebecca VanBuren graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in inclusive elementary education.

Two local students graduated from SUNY New Paltz in May. Luke Zenir of Cherry Valley was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and Nicholas Summers of Cooperstown received his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics.

Isabella Joanne Anania of Cooperstown received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in May.

Wilkes University student Rima Avasatthi of Milford was one of more than 95 students, faculty and staff recognized at the Extracurricular Awards Luncheon for their contributions to activities outside the classroom. The event was held April 25. Avasatthi received the Two Years of Service award presented by Wilkes University Student Government. Wilkes University is in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY

Jeffrey W. Yaun Jr. of Van Hornesville has been inducted into the St. Lawrence University chapter of Phi Sigma Tau, the international honorary society for philosophy. Yaun, a member of the Class of 2021, is majoring in economics.

SUNY ONEONTA

The SUNY Oneonta History Department faculty recognized 12 students for academic achievement and outstanding essay writing during a recent awards ceremony. Among them were local students September Schaffer of Roseboom who received Ethel Ray & Ada Crippen Award and Connor Davidson of Hartwick who won the Maynard Redfield History Essay Competition introductory essay category.

Schaffer is also among 24 new inductees of SUNY Oneonta’s Alpha-Kappa-Iota chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society.
