The Cooperstown Central School District is introducing a new communication tool for students, parents and staff.

Global Connect is a software application that will be used to make emergency notifications such as snow day and other closing or delay communications. In the event of an emergency notification, simultaneous phone calls will be made with an automated message indicating the nature of the emergency and information about schedule changes.

In addition to emergency notifications, Global Connect is also capable of making calls to specific groups such as grade-level announcements, attendance notifications and class-specific instructions.

As a starting point for building the Global Connect contact data base, phone number information from emergency notification/student health card updates will be used to populate the calling portal. Parents are asked to ensure that contact information on the emergency contact/student health card is current. The district is planning on sending an initial test message on Monday. If a trial message is not received on that date, parents are asked to notify either Melissa Pashley, middle/high school secretary, at 547-8181 or Laurie Pestar, elementary secretary, at 547- 9976.

Everybody’s help in establishing a complete and accurate phone number data base is greatly appreciated, according to Superintendent C.J. Hebert.

According to a letter he sent, more information regarding alternative contact modes will be posted on the district website after initial test transmission is completed.
