The Smithy will host its third and final opening reception of the season from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 29. This exhibit, "Forged in History," will be on display through Aug. 30.

"Forged in History" will feature work in all media by invited guest artists and Smithy member artists displayed throughout all three floors of gallery. In celebration of The Smithy, gallery officials invited artists to present or create artwork inspired by the Smithy building, the grounds, or its history. The Smithy is Cooperstown's oldest building and has had many uses and functions over the 233 years of its existence, presenters said in a media release.

On the first floor, Andy Baugnet will present "Picturing The Grange: Black & White Photographs of Grange Halls Throughout New York State." His documentation of the landmarks include broad views and intimate looks into the form and function of a grange hall.

Guest exhibitors include artists Mary Lou Ganio and the late Susan F.C. Weil, as well as blacksmiths Radomir Dvorak, Nathaniel Francisco and Josh Hartley and ceramicist Chris Watts.

The Smithy is at 55 Pioneer St. in Cooperstown. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays thorugh Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 607-547-9777 or visit www.smithyarts.org.
