Inmates in Otsego County’s jail will receive substance abuse treatment, according to a media release.

Otsego County Community Services received $60,000 in funding from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services to provide jail-based substance use disorder treatment and transitional services for the inmates at the Otsego County Correctional Facility.

The money will fund screening, education, treatment and community reentry services at the jail.

Estimates indicate that more than 50 percent of inmates have criminal behavior related to their use of substances, the release said. Providing services during incarceration offers an opportunity to engage inmates in using recovery support services after their release.

The Otsego County Community Services Addiction Recovery Center will provide the addiction treatment services. Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego will provide re-entry and transition services.

The funding was secured through the collaborative efforts of the New York State Conference of Local Mental Hygiene Directors and the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, which was supported by the Otsego County Board of Representatives, the release said.
