Mayor Joe Booan has announced the first in what he wants to be a series of town hall-style meetings for village residents.

`` I would like to begin a series of town hall meetings with the focus of improving our quality of life in Cooperstown. These meetings will take place regularly and will allow for the positive exchange of your ideas to the Village Board of Trustees,’’ he wrote in a release announcing the initial meeting.

``During the most recent election process, I had the opportunity to meet many residents, property owners, business operators, friends, and neighbors. We face many important challenges in our village, and you graciously shared your concerns for Cooperstown,’’ he wrote. ``Your comments and suggestions are very important to me and I believe that you should have the opportunity to be heard and actively participate in a process of improvement. We will initiate a process that allows for more access to our village government.’’

The first meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Otsego County Courthouse. The topic chosen by Booan for the first meeting is “How Do We Improve Our Main Street?”
