THE DAILY STAR
Michael Rowley had three goals and one assist, and Will Derouin had one goal and two assists as Cooperstown’s boys soccer team opened its season with a 5-1 Center State Conference victory at Herkimer on Tuesday night.
“For our first league game with seven new starters, we’re happy with our progress,” said Cooperstown coach Frank Miosek, whose team went 16-2-1 last season, losing in overtime in the Section Three C final to Fabius-Pompey. “We maintained nice possession, but we need to work on our corner kicks. We had 12 corner kicks and didn’t score on any of them.”
Rowley scored 3 minutes, 13 seconds into play finishing a pass from Harrison Clinton. The Redskins made it 2-0 with three minutes left in the half, when Rowley headed in a chipped pass by Derouin to the far post.
Liam Heneghen also scored for Cooperstown, which enjoyed a 48-8 advantage in shots.
The Redskins play host to Morrisville-Eaton on today.
