Richfield Springs defeated Laurens, 6-5, Tuesday night in the first game of the season for both teams.

Kirsten Hess recorded six strikeouts with eight hits and one walk to earn the win for the Indians. Evonna Mower caught the complete game for RS.

Mower led Richfield Springs in batting, going 4-for-4 with a double and scoring three runs. Brooke Connolly went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

“They hit the ball real well with 13 hits,” Laurens coach Andy Carr said. “Hess was right around the plate on her pitches.”

Skyler White pitched for Laurens with Sierra Johnson behind the plate.

White also went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Leopards, who got five of their six hits in the sixth inning.

“It was the first time out with live pitching so it took us a while to get the bats going,” Carr said. “We played well for it being the first time out and we made some really good defensive plays.”

Laurens (0-1) will play in Morris on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
