Richfield Springs ousted in sectional play

 Roxbury’s softball team outlasted Richfield Springs in a 27-22 shootout in Monday’s Section IV Class D Quarterfinal contest.

The Rockets got out to an early 8-0 lead in the first inning that became as large as 27-14 before the Indians made things interesting with an eight-run seventh inning.

Lacey German had a huge day at the plate for Roxbury, going 5-for-5 with home run, a triple, and six runs scored. Kylie DeMaio went 4-for-6 with five runs while Kimora Brown and Bryanna Meehan had triples and Gabrielle Garofolo had a double.

Maggie Worobey led the Richfield Springs offense, going 3-for-3 with four runs and 3 RBIs.

Milford 27, Laurens 13

The Milford Wildcats outlasted the Laurens Leopards in a 27-13 softball shootout on Thursday, June 3, in the Tri-Valley League.

Kara Mertz had four hits including a triple and Tia Vagliardo also had four hits to lead Milford. Tionna Stone notched a triple and Kaitlyn Finch added a double. Leeanna West was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats.

Gabby Andrades had a triple and a double at the plate for Laurens.

Milford finished the season with a record of 8-5.

Milford 17, Downsville 4

Earlier in the week, Milford scored nine runs in the fourth inning en route to a 17-4 victory over Downsville in Wednesday’s non-league contest.

Leeanna West finished with 16 strikeouts while allowing just one hit in six innings for the Wildcats.
