Milford/Laurens boys get win in opener

The Milford/Laurens boys soccer team defeated visiting Morris, 3-0, in the team’s Tri-Valley League season opener. Tuesday, March 30.

Milford/Laurens head coach Greg Eggleston said via email that Tuesday was just the fifth time this season that the Milford and Laurens players had been on the field together.

Rylie Nemitz scored at 12:40 minutes in the first half on a long throw-in by Martin Thorsland to give Milford/Laurens a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

Brock Mann scored Milford/Laurens’ second goal at 17:15 minutes in the second half and Riley Stevens scored a breakaway goal at 31:49 minutes in the second half to help Milford/Laurens put the game out of reach.

“There is still lots to work on, but I am happy with the effort today,” Eggleston said. “Both teams played very hard in windy conditions.”

Louis Banks made three saves for Milford/Laurens.

JJ Benjamin made six saves for Morris.

After a scoreless first half Cherry-Valley Springfield’s Allan Parker scored one minute into the second half to give the Patriots the lead.

Gavin Valenta made one save for Cherry Valley-Springfield who outshot Sharon Springs 13-1.

Xander Olsen made 12 saves for Sharon Springs.

Morris’ Carissa Richards scored with 7:42 minutes remaining in the first half on a Mackenzie Graves cross to give the Mustang’s the lead.

Milford outshot Morris 8-7 on the game.

Maddie Coleman made nine saves for Morris.

Sarah Lewis scored two goals and Zoe Climenhaga had two assists to lead the Cherry Valley-Springfield girls soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Sharon Springs on Wednesday, March 31.

Mia Horvath opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 6:55 with a 35-yard strike that beat Sharon Springs goalkeeper Miranda Mabie.

Three minutes later Joleen Lusk played the ball back to teammate Sarah Lewis who scored to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Morgan Huff scored the Patriots’ third first-half goal off of a Zoe Climenhaga assist and Sarah Lewis capped off the team’s scoring off of Climenhaga’s second assist to give Cherry Valley-Springfield a 4-0 lead.

Marijke Kroon made two saves for the Patriots, who outshot Sharon Springs 21-2.

Mabie made 12 saves for Sharon Springs.
